No audio on RPI after changing display resolution

I just spent days trying to figure out why Mate is the only desk mgr. to do consistently kill my audio, Twister nor its Rasbian base do this, nor does Mate's Ubuntu base. I did not occur to me that changing my display setting as the first thing done after the menu appears, so I could properly read the rest of setup on my 55 in. television monitor.
I've changed every piece of hardware involved, including the Argon1 case, the drive and type thereof, anything that my sub-power user self could think of, before just doing what I should have, checking the speakers after each stage of installation.
Considering how consistent this is, I cant be the only one this has happened to.

Whine, snivel... Please help.
