Hello,
Been using the OS for couple of weeks and out of nowhere desktop icons and mate status bar despairs. I can start both by first resting the bar using Mate twicks and stopping and starting the Caja service but I am looking for a permanent fix before I can continue using the OS seriously.
Thank you in advance.

Hi, @Adam32x and welcome to the Ubuntu MATE Community!

First off, Adam, its always good to let the Community know just what context they are facing when trying to fit your symptoms into any diagnostic process. Could you provide the info reported by the following command?
inxi -F -xxx
Also, given the description offered, it almost sounds like a race condition during boot/login. That can be controlled by adding parameters to the systemd service for the component that is having issues. Unfortunately, I don't know enough to guide you to which specific service controls the elements that you are having trouble with.
However, you might find it instructive to review this earlier posting by Thom.

Thank you for the reply. Now upon boot, the bars load except the icons. Restarting Caja brings them back. Here is the log.
UPDATE: The same problem returns again after restart; Mate bars gone, shows up again after resting panels. Desktop icons gone, returns after restarting caja.
adam@adam:~$ inxi -F -xxx

yes. I need to kill and start it.
I further analyzed why icons bring back when start caja in same issue. I didn't succeed. For me, it's a bug. I didn't identify the root cause. The only workaround I found, was to start caja automatically at login of UM.
I think, caja is linked to the compositor which is related to that issue.
