I’ve been using Kubuntu for a while, and I couldn’t get any desktop notifications from Firefox there. I thought it was something KDE-related, and I’ve procrastinated asking about it, because of other priorities. Now I’m back to Ubuntu MATE, but I still receive no desktop notification from Firefox.
I’ve tried both googling and duckduckgoing about it – to no avail… :-/
Does anyone have any idea about how to get them back? Do I miss something? Or do I have something blocking it?
Generally, Firefox asks if you want to allow notifications for each site. If you go to a site that wants to show notifications, you will get a little popup from Firefox asking if you want to enable/forbid notifications.
I don’t recall ever getting download notifications. All I’ve ever seen is the download icon next to the address bar bouncing and turning blue. And I’m usually downloading Linux distros via torrent, so I just set it to open in Transmission, and because it downloads and opens fast, I never have to worry about it.
Dunno… You’ve probably never used stock Ubuntu? Firefox was sending download notifications there since forever, I guess… surely even before Unity, and throughout the whole Unity phase. Not sure about Gnome Shell right now… But that’s an interface I don’t like very much, anyway.
But anyway, it’s not only the download notifications, I am not getting ANY notifications whatsoever, and still haven’t found any solution to it… :-/
I’ve used stock Ubuntu, but never for very long at a time. Come to think of it, I think I do get notifications, but it’s been a while since I used Firefox. Occasionally, I get an error report “Popup Notifications has crashed”, but I just hit Reload and it comes back. Have you tried your Firefox notification settings and the system notification settings?
I did, to no avail. So I’ve tried “refreshing” Firefox settings altogether. Now I get notifications from sites (not integrated with the system’s notifications, however), but not from downloads… Seems like they’ve removed that feature from stock Firefox, and there is no usable add-on for this feature ATM. :-/ Well, patience, I guess…
