No touchpad asus

Dear friends,

mate boots, everything except touchpad works, which means I can do nothing

asus ux501 -windows cryptic description in device manager : asus touchpad

apparently the touchpad requires kernel 4.5

therefore, although boot it fine, obviously, i can neither run live nor install

any ideas?

best,

martin

Hi Martin,

are you sure that the touchpad isn’t simply switched off?, press the FN key + the key that enables/disables the touchpad and see if it works!.

Another alternative is to buy a cheap USB laptop mouse!.

Dear Wolf,

Thanks - in order to beat the RMA for returning the laptop, I decided to try to make sure at least I have one possibility to work, so I have, unbelievably, unity on 15.10.
There will be a lot of questions, as it does not make sense that the earlier version works, and Mate on 16.04 does not.

Do you know if there is something in the evdev files that may have been misconfigured on the live disc that I can fix once installed?
Gratefully,

M

Hi @yazdzik,

all I know is that Ubuntu 16.04 is buggy at the moment, you can try doing a new ISO download and starting again, I am having a small problem with the software update manager at the moment myself and intend to completely wipe the whole lot and start again (I have everything backed up on an external drive!)!. :frowning:
