You might try searching on “ubuntu: install numix circle icons” which in my case led to - https://omgfoss.com/install-numix-theme-icons-ubuntu-18-04/. Following the terminal instructions there installed both the Numix theme(s) and the icons. Simple, easy and direct. Good luck Rob,
Thank you sir I will give it a go. I kinda knew you needed both theme and icons but I didn’t have the correct resources to retrieve them
I have no access to a PC at the moment but once I do, I might give this a try. It’s probably going to be another boilerplate installation tutorial I’ll end up writing using a secondary PPA source.
That’s generally what I do; If I can do it, I write about it.
I managed to get it installed but the folders are a gold color I rather have the orange one any ideas?
Not sure how you installed them but just in case, the Numix team provides a PPA to have the latest version of the icons & themes (and also some that are not in the Ubuntu repos, like the square icons).
AFAIK, there are no variants of the folders with different colors like there used to be a few years ago IIRC (default one should be a light orange) though the theme supports Folder Color. But Folder Color doesn’t allow to set an alternative default color anymore.
Unless your folders use the yellow variant, which would be weird (can you post a screenshot to confirm this?), the only “easy” way I can think of to use a different color for the folders would be to create a custom theme with the one you want that depends on Numix and use it instead in the Appearance prefs.
Did anybody ever figure out how to restore this? I tried going back several versions I knew worked but they never showed the option in newer Ubuntu builds.
Probably missing libs, but no deps on older versions so I am thinking it might be newer lib builds shedding features.
Thanks everyone I seem to get it installed correctly just did a clean installion as this is a new machine and followed the directions provide. Everything seems ok
I doubt it’s related to missing libs, it should work with an older version. Did you downgrade the package specific to Caja + the common data (Nautilus + Caja) one? Also, is your icon theme actually compatible with the feature? At the time, the color icons had different names and a few extra icons with each color.
I’ll check a live session for that.
I’m not sure there was a proper version of the (Ambiant + Radiant) MATE icon theme compatible with the old way Folder Color worked. I provided the icons that are currently used and at the time they were added, it was during the “switch” to the new icons so I followed the instructions to adapt my own custom icon theme. I don’t remember exactly when they were added.
EDIT: my original post about the issue is there: No proper support for Folder Color
Previously, the MATE icon theme didn’t have color folders icons, so Folder Color used its own ones. I provided proper icons for inclusion in 17.10, so you might want to check 17.04 if it’s still available, or 16.04, though I’m not sure Ubuntu MATE already included Folder Color at the time.
