Open Source Routers

Turris Omnia 2GB
I have been looking at getting a new Open Source router. One that runs Openwrt or dd-wrt etc…
I happened upon this one and was wondering if anyone here is using one? It looks awesome from the specs, 1 and 2 GB ram versions with 8GB of flash memory, mSATA for a NAS. With my whimpy (no puns intended) network configuration it is OVER POWERED, but so is almost everything I do when I buy hardware. The 1GB version is also about $100 more than I was planning on spending. I have a limited budget being an out of work Windows Admin that loves Linux but sucks at it. That all said, I want an awesome product I won’t be wishing I spent my hard earned $$$ on.

Thanks all,
Andamo

you could buy a used Linksys WRT54G and update the firmware to dd-wrt. https://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index has lots of info how to d/l firmware for a particular version of 54G and update it. Since you love Linux, there are many ways to go about your setup.

You can install zentyal 5 in an old pc with 2 NIC and you got a router, dns, dhcp, samba, and other goodies. Configure an old wifi router as Access Point only for your wifi needs.

Feel more adventurous … look at pfSense, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PfSense

Have you considered a router supported by this: ASUSwrt-Merlin?

In addition to being open-source (Tomato based) it gets regular updates and improvements, which can be lacking in some Openwrt/dd-wrt + hardware combinations.

Several add-ons available too. [But note that Network Printing doesn’t really work on ASUS routers if more than 1 user, as router admin privileges are need to release printer for other users to use!]
