OpenShot install fail from the software boutique

Attempting to install OpenShot from the software boutique I encountered this error.

Turns out the apt source has a typo, I’ll get that fixed.

In the meantime, all it requires is a package list refresh. This can be done under the Fixes tab and Update Package Lists button.

I had this problem too. What is openshot-qt?

I installed openshot with symantic and all seems well, although its not been used enough for me to to be really sure. openshot-qt is also an item in symantic, but I didn;t install it, having never heard of it before.

Edit: Oops. I got it wrong. Here’s the right descriptions:

  • openshot-qt is the new 2.0 version (powered by Qt)

  • openshot is the older version, also found in the Ubuntu archive.

Openshot installs and seems to work fine without openshot-qt installed. In fact openshot-qt seems to have been removed from the repos recently when I looked in synaptic a few minutes ago.

The PPA on Launchpad says otherwise:

Actually looking at the dates, openshot is the old 1.x series. openshot-qt is the brand new 2.x series, featuring the dark interface… that one’s brand new.

The old openshot is in the Ubuntu archives too.
