I opened plank and then when i opened the top panel properties a panel icon appeared and I just cant close it. It's really annoying.........please help me
Sorry for bringing this topic up, as I do encounter the same behaviour (Plank + UM 24.04). Is this intended? If it is, what workaround can I do for this one?
To disable the settings icon in Plank on Ubuntu MATE, follow these steps:
- Open the Terminal (
Ctrl + Alt + T
). - Type the following command and press Enter:
gsettings set net.launchpad.plank.dock.settings:/net/launchpad/plank/docks/dock1/ show-dock-item false
- Restart Plank to apply the changes:
pkill plank && plank &
This should remove the settings icon from the dock. Let me know if you need further assistance!
When you open Mate Tweak you will find a menu with "Panel" options:
Here you can disable dock if you want to
Also if you want to remove just one applet from the dock you can try and right-click on it and it will ask you "Keep in Dock" and you just uncheck it and it should remove it
If you want to move the Dock left/right/top/bottom - open "Plank preferences" in "Look and feel" (can be found under "Preferences" category in system menu) and there you should be able to "rotate" dock and even have an option to "hide dock" on the "behaviour" settings
It works,
but I do not understand why.
Even if I set show-dock-item true
again (after setting it to false) it keeps on working (i.e. not showing the panel icon again).
What is the magic behind this ?
I've tried that one... and it worked! Logged out, logged back in... opened Panel Preferences to try and show it up to dock, it did show up. Still came as same as it was before.
It works for me even with that option enabled (until the next boot)
It's exactly that fact that makes me wonder why does it work?
