Password not recognized

Hi everyone.
I'm Matteo and I'm super new to that.

Unfortunately I'm experiencing a huge problem:

I've installed ubuntu mate in a old Lenovo ideapad 100-15IBD

After a couple of uses the number keys stopped to work correctly.
After this problem my password wasn't working using the terminal so I decided to restart the pc.

Now what happen is that even the ubuntu-mate access page is not recognizing my password (using the virtual keyboard as I'm not able to type any 0 and 2 on the numeric built in keypad/and not able to type any number but the 5 and 6 on the line under the Fn buttons).

I'm not able to format the pc as even if I use the ideapad reset button and I select recovery option, the laptop doesn't accede to the further options and it brings me back to the ubuntu-mate password page.

I'm open to format the pc if there is any other way to do so.

Help!!

Can you borrow a USB keyboard? That might work, then you could boot into recovery mode, drop to the terminal and enter a new password.
