PC Specialist Recoil II with Ubuntu MATE on it

hi there,
I have a problem with my laptop under ubuntu on battery only. It shuts down. Can you point me to some logs that I can check so I can pin down if it is hardware/kernel/driver fault. Or maybe nvidia acting up. Currently have 450.102.04 Nvidia proprietary driver on 20.04 Ubuntu mate. Worth mentioning that Windows doesnt have this fault, except yesterday after that 20RH2 update, but then it happened also when on charger, not only on battery. But when I reverted it back it fixed itself.

Hi and welcome to our community

Is your ubuntu starting shutdown process (clean stop) or directly power off like electrical power lose on desktop computers ?

I'm fixing broken hardware in my free time at my work and got something similar on a Thinkpad t460.
The solution was to unplug the power supply and the external battery, unplug also the secondary battery embedded inside the computer, also, unplug the cmos, press 30sec power button (it will do nothing as there are no battery). Assemble everything back, set up the date inside the bios and i got rid of the issue.

For me, it looks like a CMOS issue - do your computer travel in time ? xD

Good luck

Hi Olek,
Thank you for your welcome.
Ubuntu directly powers off, like shortcircuited.
You think there is residual electricity in motherboard?
My suspect is that there are some conflict in acpi settings, because this does not happen in windows.

Give it a try as I wrote, will not mess more
Do your PC become hot ?

The issue doe not appear while on charger, it is not thermal issue therefore. It is a power issue. If there is ubuntu probram allowing me to go through system events to see what exact error did it create before shutting down it would be of great help. Thank you

You can check the /var/log/kern.log

Try to note the exact time of the failure and match it with the file.

At what exact time you got the outage ?

I don't see something there. Strongly thinking about the issue I got on the T460.
The CMOS thing should help I guess.

Issue was with battery. New one installed works perfectly
