Persistence in Sound Preferences

Ubuntu MATE 22.04

In Sound Preferences the Hardware and Output tabs default to values that don't produce any sound, every time I reboot.

In the Hardware and Options tabs I have 3 options:
HDA Nvidia
Headphones (Razer BlackShark V2 Pro)
Desktop speakers (Starship/Matisse HD Audio Controller).

I would like the desktop speakers to be the default. It's a minor annoyance, having to change it after each reboot. Is there a way to keep my changes persistent across reboots? Thanks.
