Pi 400 and Mate keyboard configuration

I just purchased a Raspberry pi 400 and installed the 20.10 64 Bit mate. I cannot seem to be able to find the right keyboard configuration. I have selected US English and US Keyboard but once I log on the characters do not match the keyboard layout. I can type my name and password to login OK. The problem is after the logon is completed. I have switched to every single US english keyboard options and none of them seem to help. I switched to a new microSD card and installed fresh, same problem.

If I boot up to Raspberry OS, everything works fine. The keyboard shows as US English 105 intl but there is no such option under Mate. Any ideas?

Have you tried sudo raspi-config after pressing [ctrl]+[alt]+[f1]?

Look for Localization Option and Set Keyboard.

I don't believe raspi-config is available in Ubuntu Mate...???

Just for giggles, I installed the a different ununtu mate port: **[raspi_ubuntu_focal_arm64_btrfs.img.xz] and the keyboard on the pi400 works as advertised. No issues whatsoever. Config shows the same keyboard configuration as the RaspiOS. That leads me to believe there is an issue the the official Raspi-Mate release.

Here the same problem on my Pi 400.
But if I hold down the FN key it works fine.
This problem does not excist in other distro.
When I type this I have matches pin luciferpin in my FN key.
There must be an other soution but I couldn't figure it out.
Anyone know.
This is my first post and I hope Mate wil be the first distro that will work, aldo I wouldt have Mint in the first place but no go.

Welcome @Oetker to the community!

I guess that the following keys will also work different:
m=0, j=1, k=2, l=3, u=4, i=5, o=6, etc etc etc
and with [shift] they won't do anything

Usually this problem only crops up if:

  1. The keyboard has a numpad 'overlay' mode (like small wireless keyboards and laptop keyboards)
    AND
  2. Numlock is activated.

Could you try to switch the numlock off and try again ?

Th Pi400 keyboard works good with the FN key pressed.
I tried it with the num lock off and that was the solution.
I'm typing this now with num lock off.
I think I have to modify start up now to let num lock off when starting up.
After 3 days of try and error, Mate starts to work.
Thanks for advice
