I "duckduckgo-ed" for solutions, searched fora, tried potential solutions and workarounds the last days, but, nothing worked...
So, my questions:
- How can I add a shutdown/restart icon (or docklet) to Plank? I could not find a docklet or code that worked. I tried Docky, but it kept crashing on me, so I removed Docky again.
- I put the Advanced Mate menu behind an icon in a normal panel and made the panel transparent. But I'd love to get rid of the panel alltogether. So, how can I add the Advanced Mate menu "iconized" to Plank?
Thanks in advance for pointing me in the right direction!
Try this:
Add to a panel the default menu (the one in the default layout)
Then go to System -> Shutdown and drag the icon to plank
I tried that. And now retried. But unfortinately Plank doesn’t accept that
Thanks for the suggestion!
Oh, I assumed the previous way I did it was redundant because I had forgotten about the shutdown under system.
Actually it's not and the solution I wanted to give you works for some reason.
So I'll rewrite here:
Right click the menu, select "Edit Menus"
In the menu editor click on "New Item"
Pick a shut down icon for the new item, for instance: /usr/share/icons/Ambiant-MATE/actions/22/system-shutdown-panel.svg
Fill in a name, for instance "Shutdown"
In the command field enter:
/usr/bin/mate-session-save --shutdown-dialog
Then save your new menu item, it'll appear in Applications -> ShutDown
You can then drag that menu item into Plank (Tested on Ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS)
This worked. Thanks again!
Point 1 solved. Perfect…
Point 2 is (relatively) relevant because Nomachine doesn’t seem to be able to handle an autohiding panel in the remote session on an ipad. Not when using the touchscreen and not when using the virtual mouse. Cosmetic. But still… I will retry Remmina, as you wrote in another thread.
I actually like it now, to work on Linux like this
Oh sorry I hadn’t even noticed the second point.
About Point 2: I might be wrong but I don’t think that MATE Menu can run outside a panel.
What are your needs exactly relating to the menu?
If you just need the launcher feature you could maybe use Synapse instead?
easier.
with files app, click on the search icon and search for shutdown and drag and drop the app icon that looks like this
down to plank
bing bang boom, easiest method.
