Please add Rhythimbox "Tray Icon Plugin" and enable it by default

@Wimpy
Rhythimbox does not quit when you close the main window, I think it is the default action…
The tray icon plugin is an option to show the program status, it is available here:

I understand… It is really annoying when you close the main window, music keeps playing and you lose control over the application… The plugin is the only way I found to regain control.
Thanks for your reply

Hi,

try checking your update settings and run a full update per my suggestions here and make sure you set your software sources download location to “Main”, it may well fix the problem for you:

@wolfman thanks, but this problem is inherent to Rhythimbox. Have you tried to start any song/music and close the main window? Unless you use the menu/file/close the song still plays and the application vanishes from the screen, with the plugin you can reopen it.

Hi Sergio,

the only option I have for you is to add the icon to the top panel, otherwise I can’t think of anything as it isn’t working for me either, you can at least access the app quickly (ish) as it tries to start a 2nd instance but fails!. :smiley:

Hi @wolfman
Just try the plugin I mentioned above, it works 100%!

This is a problem. System tray functionality is pretty much expected from a music player. If Rhythmbox doesn’t want to ship a system tray functionality by default, maybe another alternative should be considered, such as Clementine or Pragha.

Agreed, I replaced Rhythmbox and added Clementine in my respin…
