While trying to install my Brother HL-L2340DW I used the Printer Trouble Shooter from System>Control Center>Printers and it bailed on me at this screen:
I am afraid I can’t help you with installation of his printer in Linux Fred as it is usually a right pain to fix such a problem unless you have direct experience of how to do it.
However, one solution, that I happen to use myself for my Canon LBP1900i printer, is to run it as a connected peripheral device inside a Windows VM and have a shared folder that I put my to-be-printed files in. Thus, I place my file in the shared folder, fire up my VM and print the file from there. Then close the VM.
Once set up, it only adds about a minute or so to your print times. Not ideal, but it works.
