Power Mac G5 getting blue screen when trying to boot live from DVD

I am trying to install Ubuntu Mate on my Power Mac G5. The boot screen pops up after it loads the cd, but shortly after pressing enter the splash screen appears and then a blank blue screen shows up. I do not know what is wrong as I have tried Lubuntu and now Ubuntu mate and the same thing happens. The hardware I have is 2Ghz CPU, 2GB RAM, 512MB ATI X800 AGP GPU.

By all accounts that is a troublesome graphics card. You might be able to get something on the screen with the radeon.modeset=0 boot parameter, but the colours will be messed up and some windows will be transparent.

You should be able to install via an alternate or mini ISO. Then it will be a bit of a slog to get the graphics working. Probably have to setup an xorg.conf to use the fbdev driver.

Thanks man I tried to use that boot parameter but still had no luck. I actually just decided that it wasn’t going to be worth my time so I gutted the case and am now building a new pc in the case to run the OS. Thanks tho for your help.
