Problem after upgrade to 18.04

I recently upgraded from 16.04 to 18.04 on my 32 bit Athlon computer. The boot process gives me the following message: “A start job is running for HOLD until boot process finishes up (2d 22h 58min / no limit)”. Its still running. How can I fix this hangup? I’m relative noobie so simple explanation please.

Hallo Tony18

At this stage I personally would do a fresh install.

Please remember to backup all your data, emails, web-browser bookmarks etc. first.

You might also find the article by Wolfman of interest for future reference:

It shows you how it is possible to install a new version of Ubuntu-Mate, without having to “restore” all the contents of your “/home” each time. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you very much for the reply. I had considered a fresh install as a worst case but was reluctant to loose my home folder. I’ll look at the article you mentioned.
