How can I put a trash can on my panel?

I am using UM 22.04.

right click panel, add to panel, select trash from the list.

I'm using the Traditional Panel in MATE Tweak.
If you have a different panel, Trash may not be offered.

How do I find out which panel I am using?

The best method would be to remember when you installed it. It looks standard Ubuntu (orange) from the menu button not Ubuntu Mate (green).

Short of that you may have to experiment. It really depends how important it is to you.
