I think if ricky2 keeps plugging away, mate can overtake debian

Just in case anyone is interested, it (Distrowatch) will only allow one click per IP address per day, so if anyone is clicking on the link more than once; they are wasting their time!.

Interesting - I wonder if Ubuntu’s count contains UM?

Debian is certainly a heavy weight as it’s base for the top 4!

But today, Debian is rising, MATE is dropping…

Debian :- old :older_man: but not obsolete :ghost:

Hmmm

I wonder if Debian has started a campaign

We should call all our MATE lovers to give a hand. This will play a significant role in making MATE popular, because actually, the main distributions are still treating gnome and kde as the default choice, Lots of people have never expeienced MATE. Attracting more people to use MATE will also benifit the development, as bugs will be easily found by all the users. So, the ranking has a big sense in MATE’s future. I will keep update the ranking daily.

It is quite possible that due to the bugs in 16.04, people are looking for a stable alternative and Debian is quite stable.

Ubuntu should get their act together and stop pushing out releases that have not been thoroughly tested because all it does is create bad press, they are their own worst enemy!. :frowning:

Yes, cononical claimed before the release that this is a bug free release, but seems that we still have to wait…

By the way, I admire openSUSE, because they are focused on the desktops, with the enterprise-level quality.

Shame about the software management in OpenSuSe, otherwise it would be a very good OS imo!.

I think 7 days is too short a window to get a good picture - it reflects short-term surges of interest, like new releases. If I set the data span to 6 mos, Ubuntu MATE is 14th (on 30 Apr 2016). Still very good, since they include 100 distros.
