Recent update seems to have broken totem video player

Been a few days since I needed to play a video, but after today’s update totem is broken:

~$ totem

(totem:23383): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_strsplit: assertion ‘string != NULL’ failed
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

But it could have happened with any of the previous three or four updates.

Running Ubuntu-Mate 16.04, Desktop 1.14.1 with all updates installed, as of a few hours ago.

What is with so many of the recent updates requiring a reboot? This is starting to get as annoying as Windows was.

Hi wally333

Looks like you hit on a bug :frowning2:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/1574253

Got the same issue with xplayer (fork of Totem) in Mint 18 (based on Ubuntu 16.04). Found out that the recent update of nvidia driver from 361 to 367 caused it.

Well… it turned out I just needed to reboot to fix the problem.

There’s another bug report on LP that shows the problem is in libcogl:
