I sometimes save links to movies and other things found on the internet. I just noticed that these desktop links have been stored under APPLICATIONS - OTHER. Does anyone know how to remove the links from this menu?

I think I know what you mean,
go to system/control centre/main menu and untick the other submenu.
Like the Screenshot shows:
You can also click the left menu buttons to un select certain applications from the submenu like in this screenshot:
