RPi 3 reboots every 5 minutes after upgrade to Ubuntu MATE 16.04.1

Upgraded from previous release (via command line, using “sudo do-release-upgrade”. Now my Pi 3 reboots every 5 minutes.
Does anyone else have this problem (and hopefully a solution) ?

Hello, welcome!

The Raspberry Pi version isn’t supposed to be upgraded. The kernel is different to that of the desktop edition and the upgrade has left your Pi running the 15.10 kernel instead of the one used in 16.04).

You could try manually updating the kernel:

sudo rpi-update

Really, it’s not recommended to upgrade the Raspberry Pi version across release versions as mentioned here:

For the desktop and PowerPC versions, the aforementioned commands installs all available updates for that version: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade Equivalent to using the Software Updater to install updates graphically. OK, but surely when I logged-in and it told me to run the upgrade, then that message should be suppressed…
