Second Monitor off by default

Hey!
I am using Ubuntu MATE 17.10 on a Thinkpad w550s. At work I have a docking station connected to a second monitor. When I docked in the log-in screen showed both monitors as expected. However, after log-in the external monitor shut down. I could just turn it on in the hardware -> display settings. Shouldn’t this be the default? Maybe it has to do with the nvidia proprietary drivers (v. 384) I am using?

Thanks for the great OS

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

is the 2nd monitor showing as active in display settings?:

Hey wolfman,
thanks for the reply. It does show and I could just switch it on from there. After switching it on it also shows in Nvidia settings (but not before). I was just wondering why second monitors are not switched on by default.

Hi Daniel,

I have no idea why it is switched off but is your problem solved now?.

Yeah thanks! That’s why I posted it under “Thoughts & Feedback”. Not a big issue but a rather surprising default.

I had the same experience. The default should be changed. The defaults are VERY important if the idea is to reach the mainstream user, who does not tinker with settings.
