I have four cameras with BNC output, connected to a Q-See DVR that no longer works. I bought an easyCAP converter with the Fushicai UT007 chipset, and it works with vlc. I’d like to know if there are any programs for 16.04 that will do what the Q-See used to do: sense motion and send email while recording to a hard drive (NAS) and being available from the internet (i have a static ip). Thanks for any pointers.
I have used Motion before
Also, see here:
Thanks! I will check these out.
How did you got a static ip?
Requested one from my ISP. They are pretty cooperative since I am one of the guys who built the two towers they use to bring broadband to our mountain community!
I’ve decided to try Zoneminder because documentation seems to be better.

Gave up on ZM and using motion. There are two cameras, the laptop’s webcam and a usb camera. When ~/.motion/motion.conf is set to videodevice /dev/video0 then webcam appears and when videodevice /dev/video1 then the usb camera. However, I can’t get the thread.conf files to work. For example, ~/.motion/thread1.conf will contain the single line videodevice /dev/video1 and I will comment out the corresponding line in motion.conf. I get a gray screen then on localhost:8081. Uncomment the line in motion.conf and video1 reappears. In short, motion is not reading the thread1.conf file or something is missing from it. Any help appreciated. Happy Turkey Day!
