Setting up Proton VPN on ubuntu-MATE-18

Does anyone have experience with setting up Proton VPN?

These are the set up resources available from Proton.

  1. https://protonvpn.com/support/linux-vpn-setup/ (We strongly recommend using our Linux VPN client tool which makes it easy to connect on Linux machines> So I go to #2.

  2. From that page they strongly recommend; https://protonvpn.com/support/linux-vpn-tool/

  3. But from page noted in 2, there is this, https://github.com/ProtonVPN/protonvpn-cli ( Which all I can say about it is it automatically looks for and installs;
    openvpn
    python
    dialog
    wget
    sysctl
    sha512sum
    But other than that >I don’t see how it ties into Linux VPN Tool which is preferred method.

I connect to ProtonVPN using OpenVPN, which I've never had any trouble with, and the instructions are still on their site...

After going through the setup procedure, you'll be able to connect to ProtonVPN through the network menu...

Hope this helps...
