Here’s my details… currently dual-booting Ubuntu-MATE 15.10 with Mac OSX on my MacBook Air. Running for about a week or so and has been working great. Very responsive and quick boot times on the SDD. All components work “out of box”. Have not changed any driver settings from default install.

I have happily started using Ubunutu-MATE on this laptop as my daily driver, only booting into the Mac side for a few specific things I have not yet setup or found suitable replacements for. Only a few small annoyances that I’m sure there may be fixes for now or in the near future, but do not work “out of box” today on 15.10:

  1. No “natural scrolling” option for the trackpad. I know that this drives some people crazy, but I’ve been using Macs with trackpads for so long now that it really screws with my muscle memory switching back and forth

  2. I’ve been experiencing issues with Compiz window manager crashing whenever I make a change to the desktop settings (exact same as discussed here). And its not that I’m totally against Marco, its just that the “shearing” when scrolling through web pages when using Marco drives me batty!

  3. The brightness controls for both the display and the backlit keyboard work, but the levels are reset whenever I attach/detach the charging cable… and not just switched back and forth between two different states (one on battery, one while plugged in), but they reset and stay that way until manually adjust again. Once again, more of a minor annoyance than anything.

All in all, I think Ubuntu-MATE is an awesome OS. I also have it installed and working well on a few other systems that I will add to this list as well soon. Many thanks to Wimpy and the rest of the gang for all their awesome work
