Edit: realized after posting this a video playback bug in VLC and SMPlayer, temporary workaround here.

Only problem I face is random crash reports when trying to use Marco GPU composition or Compiz. Otherwise Ubuntu-MATE makes for a stable and fast system in this 7 year old computer.

Addendum to the note about DXX-Rebirth and the opensource NVidia drivers in my system spec post further up: the problem with the missing GLX visual was most likely caused by Multisample=1 in descent.cfg, as I had the same problem on another PC with integrated Intel graphics and it went away after changing that to Multisample=0 .

HP Photosmart printer c 4180 all in one

Ubuntu Mate is very fast and stable,, is perfect

This one also has onboard Intel HD audio, but I have disabled it in favor of the SB Live, which I installed because it has an onboard synthesizer so I don’t need to have Fluidsynth eating any CPU cycles.
Btw. the onboard video only has a VGA output, but the image quality at 1920x1200 on my flat screen monitor is amazing - no difference to my other PC connected via DVI.

This old Dell. I added two hard drives one runs W7 the other 250G runs MATE (I’m an old Ultimate Edition user so I like Gnm2 format. The AMD card uses open driver and preforms quite well. It’s a dual boot dual HD basket case. Never had any problems loading or booting MATE. Hope I posted correctly.

Mate but not Ubuntu  although I did arrive at Mate via a previous Ubuntu Mate install where it worked out of the box for six months while it went through system testing, Debian ended up being better for my particular workflow. Installed a few desktops but preferred mate over all the rest.

I bought this laptop mostly for astronomy image processing using PixInsight. The laptop is very fast and stable. Initially I had issues with Ubuntu Mate. The live distribution ran fine, but after installation, the system would freeze immediately after logging in. Booting into repair mode then continuing from there worked fine however. After updating to the latest NVIDIA driver, I had no further issues.

It’s a self built system that’s been added onto and such ever since about late 2009 I believe. UM as far as I can tell, runs really well on this computer. I also have this running on a somewhat used HP Pavilion dv4-1465dx laptop with 8 gigs of RAM, and it runs fairly well on that too!
