It’s a self built system that’s been added onto and such ever since about late 2009 I believe. UM as far as I can tell, runs really well on this computer. I also have this running on a somewhat used HP Pavilion dv4-1465dx laptop with 8 gigs of RAM, and it runs fairly well on that too!

Responsive but won’t run Skype since it lacks SSE2 SIMD in the CPUs

Fairly old HP laptop bought at a discount with win7 pre-installed at the time Win8 was just coming out. Have upgraded HDD to a SSD and maxed out the memory to 8GB. Also replaced the original 6-cell battery (after pretty much wearing it out) with an aftermarket 9-cell battery.

Everything is working out-of-box. What I had to do was to work around the ‘crack sound while boot-up’ issue, which seems to be bothering many, but somehow by disabling powersave options I managed to fix this. No further problem and loving it so far!

I used your info to help me make a choice of parts for my new computer and it was very helpful indeed. I was even guided by one other person who uses this site to set the Bios up in a certain fashion. Wow thanks to all. Felt I had to return the favor and submit my system specs.

Installed as dual boot, UEFI, on the Samsung SSD with Windows 7, which is installed on the SanDisk SSD.
The install was painless and fast. Everything works. From empty HDD to updated fully working operating system in less than 30 minutes. Brilliant!
The only issue I encountered was the nvidia drivers would not load following installation. Unloading the secure boot key databases in the ASUS BIOS settings resolved this issue and did not affect booting either Ubuntu or windows.
I now boot Windows rarely and then only to use Photoshop CC 2015.
Very happy to be back using Linux 99.9% of the time.

Had to pass custom boot parameter: vga=791 else the system would crash hard upon X startup (in the live session) no problem since install completed.
