Hi. I used to be able to shut down really easily. I'd go the the top right hand corner drop down panel and there at the bottom, I'd click on the shut down icon. Well....it isn't there any more following a recent update.
Any ideas/ Has the shut down icon moved?
I had a user back on 18.04 whose shutdown occasionally mysteriously disappeared. We never found the issue. On rebooting, it usually reappeared--but if you don't know any other way to reboot.........
To reboot or shutdown in a controlled manner open a terminal window (Ctrl-Alt-T)
For shutdown, use the command "sudo systemctl poweroff"
For reboot, use the command "sudo systemctl reboot"
That triggers the same routines as the icon.
Our workaround for that user that I then put on all our 18.04 machines was to add a keyboard shortkey (we used Ctrl-Alt-X) for LogOut. You can set them in Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts
It took some time but I've found keyboard shortcuts. Experimenting now.
Ctrl +alt+delete appears to do the job. Thanks Charles
Another option is to add a Shut Down button to your panel.
Right click on the panel -> Add to Panel -> Shut Down.
