Is having a one-panel style taskbar desktop à la Linux Mint Mate easily done in latest versions of Ubuntu Mate? If so, how? Or am I better off to just use Linux Mint mate if I want that layout for my computer… ?
It’s as easy as opening up MATE Tweak and choosing the “Redmond” panel layout.
I am new so I don’t want to break anything if I can help it and your answer provides a very concise answer to my question, thank you 
Open MATE Tweak -->Select panel–>choose redmond in the top dropdown and that will give you one bar just at the bottom, then tweak it as you wish.
