Snap versions - multiple versions

Should I have multiple versions?

andy@7_~/Downloads$ snap list --all
Name Version Rev Tracking Publisher Notes
core 16-2.32.5 4486 stable canonical core,disabled
core 16-2.33.1 4917 stable canonical core,disabled
core 16-2.34.3 5145 stable canonical core
pulsemixer 1.4.0 8 stable/… georgefilipkin disabled
pulsemixer 1.4.0 23 stable/… georgefilipkin -
software-boutique 18.04.0-5b99b84 31 stable/… flexiondotorg classic
ubuntu-mate-welcome 17.10.23-e4f4c4c 169 stable/… flexiondotorg classic

Normally, when a snap is updated, the older version/s is/are kept for a while, in case something goes bad and it needs reverting back…

Same thing on my system…

I have experimented with snaps, flatpacks and appimages.

Of all of these, appimages are my favourite because they can be fully downloaded, require no installation and can be stored on external media for when I rewrite my system. Then, can be instantly available after that rewrite.

It seems to me there are, or at least should be, two advantages to these kind of portable apps.

  1. they do not suffer from dependency problems

  2. they are fully portable. In other words, they can be easily stored offline and require no internet or even, ideally, no installation procedure

I would argue that Snaps and Flatpaks fail on point 2. Appimages do not.
