(SOLVED) Scroll with mouse trackpad & number pad not working

Hi Everyone.

I recently migrated from Ubuntu 14.04 to Ubuntu Mate 14.04. I am definitely more pleased with the Mate interface than the Unity, but there are two pebbles in my shoe:

  1. I can’t scroll using two fingers on my trackpad

  2. I can’t use the number pad on the right side of the keyboard (the one that can be used as arrows or press num lock, and then can be used for numbers).

My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6:

justin@justin-HP-laptop:/home$ xinput --list
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad id=11 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=6 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Video Bus id=7 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Video Bus id=8 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ HP Truevision HD id=9 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=10 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ HP WMI hotkeys id=12 [slave keyboard (3)]
justin@justin-HP-laptop:/home$

If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance and hope to hear from you soon. Cheers.

Regards
Justin

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I have ticked ‘Pointer Can Be Controlled Using Keypad’. Just thought that I would mention it. Cheers.

Hi Justin,

this might help:

Thanks wolfman.

The scroll with the mouse is working, but not the number pad. Cheers.

Hi Everyone.

Now both the scroll with touchpad and the number pad work.

How I fixed the scroll was to enable two-finger scrolling with touchpad;

How I got the number pad working was to disable ‘Pointer can be controlled using the keypad’ in keyboard preferences, thanks to http://askubuntu.com/questions/4473/numeric-keypad-not-working

Cheers

Hi Justin,

please edit the title of your thread so it also states “SOLVED” so others can see it!.

So it looks like this:

Will do wolfman. We need a ‘Mark this as a question’ tick box…

We need a “SOLVED” button too!.
