Thought I’d try focus my question more and then close out the topic Wed
latest. Do certain network cards provide a different MAC than the
permanent one assigned to the device? I see a situation similar to
where the MAC address is being spoofed once back on MATE but there is no
way that Tails is changing anything configuration-wise on the disk.
The modem and/or router seem to notice that the MAC has “changed”, and
they must be rebooted to restore network connectivity.
A bit above my head but this might help shed some light on the matter (I haven't read through it btw!):
