Just to say thanks to the mate developers...
I've used the fvwm window manager for several decades, and having mate makes it so easy to continue to use it... (with the added bonus that I also get a side panel with notifications etc).
Have been using mate since it started - and having just installed a new laptop with it, was impressed how easy it still is to switch to fvwm!
