The footer : A newer fancier(?) version

The footer of this site, though rarely seen, looks something like a duct tapery.
I designed a better(maybe) looking header.

That looks great! I have looked at the footer and thought "This thing needs some new paint."

Suggestion: A hover effect, so it matches the rest of the buttons on the side, like so:

Hmm, what if the footer filled up the entire width of the screen.. Just to make it more consistent with the header?
