Just updated to the latest Ubuntu update. I'm using UM20.04.2LTS. It stays stuck on "checking mail server capabilities. ....until I shutdown the app.
TB works fine with gmail but my other mail provider no longer able to receive or send email. I've used this provider for 30 years limited to family and close friends. Something to do with the handshake
How can I downgrade or make an exception.?
can I delete my TB account and reinstall without losing my saved emails?
Thanks
It works on Win10 .Same server settings TB v 78.9.1
CORRECTION: IT DOES NOT work on WIN10 either
Unfortunately you're probably going to have to read them yourself and possibly poke around at some of the "Advanced" settings. Given the timeframes involved, "ancient TLS that's no longer supported" certainly seems possible, but I suspect it's more likely to be either a bug or a piece missing from your system: e.g. Ubuntu pulled in a newer version of libwhatever that security-theatered TLS1 support away, something like that.
Thanks for responding. I erred on my original post.
I found this post that purports to solve this
Posted in July 2021
...."Mozilla disabled TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in the latest versions of Firefox and Thunderbird. **: **
This causes issues with anyone connecting via SSL/TLS/StartTLS to us, as Qmail uses 1.0.
It can be enabled again through the menus of Thunderbird.
From the menu at the top right, go to Options; on Mac it may be Preferences.
Scroll all the way to the bottom and click on Config Editor.
Skip past the warning.
Scroll down until you find security.tls.version.min
Double click on it, and set the value to 1
Then okay it.
Close Thunderbird, and open it again; this should then have resolved the issue. ......"
Tried the solution. It didn't work for me so I'm regretfully looking for a replacement for TB.
UPDATE: Deleted the offensive account.on TB and reloaded it leaving the messages intact. TB objected vigorously. Reminding me that horrible things could happen , "Exception confirmed.
Now it works.
