I would like to move the title bar of the maximized windows to the panel. I used that panel application for many years with the real Ubuntu and then with Gnome Fallback.
Now I decided to upgrade after having run Ubuntu 12.04 since… 12.04. I thought it would probably be better installing a decent environment from the start, instead of fiddling with Fallback and things like that. And I must say, Ubuntu Mate was like coming home even if the cursor freezes sometimes along with a few other minor problems. However, I don’t really manage to install those Window-button and Window-title panel applications. I’ve found it on Gnome-Look and some other places, but I’d like a deb-file or something - after all these years I still can’t install zip stuff via the terminal.
The applet is umaintained and won’t work with version that are above mate 1.4 . There is no current applet that can display title and buttons of window . Someone needs to fork it . Untill then you can only get your app menubar on the panel via TopMenu
Install the Firefox plugin of TopMenu . (sudo apt-get install topmenu-mozilla-extension) . Open firefox and see if the plugin is active . I did not know if they updated it for latest firefox .
I also was in contact with the guy who’s made those window buttons. He says they’re Gnome Shell stuff and that Mate is more alike Cinnamon. He said maybe Cinnamon applications can be used in Mate. Is that right? I found this: http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/view/67 but I don’t understand how to install it.
Until I get those things to working, I’ve tried a completely different approach to saving vertical space. I have one panel and it’s positioned to the left with the Main menu on top. I found a nice panel dock displaying open windows, then there are some other stuff further down. The only negative thing is that I can’t display a watch in a vertical panel, the compromise is a big analog Cairo Clock on the desktop.
