Touchpad two-finger scrolling problematic

I’m using 17.10 and I’m noticing that two finger scrolling on the touchpad (Lenovo Z50) is not nearly as responsive as on 17.04. All of the settings are the same. In 17.04, though, it works very well, but in 17.10 I often have to tap the touchpad a certain way (sometimes tap it harder, sometimes, have my fingers placed just so…) in order for two finger scrolling to work. Anyone else experience similar issues?

Ubuntu MATE 17.10 uses the libinput touchpad driver by default instead of the older synaptics driver. Libinput is actively being developed and works better for a lot of newer devices, and with other new tech like Wayland, but I’ve noticed some touchpads still seem to work better with synaptics, especially old ones like my old MacBook’s. Eventually synaptics will be retired, but for now you can install it

sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

and reboot to use it.
