The indicator applet in my top panel has two network icons. They look slightly different but have the same dropdown menus. I assume this is not correct but I do not have a clue how to fix it. Can anyone tell me how to remove one and which one should be removed? Thanks for any help,

I got the same issue on 18.04.
The solution is to timeout indicators for network and Bluetooth inside startup applications :

Thanks for the quick response. I removed the bluetooth from the startup since this is a desktop with no bluetooth. That seems to have fixed the issue. Thanks for pointing me to the right place.
