Ubuntu 25.10 Will Default to Rust-Powered sudo-rs

Ubuntu 25.10 (Questing Quokka) will default to sudo-rs, a Rust-based reimplementation of sudo, aiming for better security and memory safety.

If you have worries, don’t. Adopting sudo‑rs will be completely transparent for most users: configuration files, command‑line behavior, and existing workflows remain unchanged.

If you’re wondering whether the regular sudo tool will still be around, yes. And not just in the 25.10 and 26.04 LTS releases, but likely in a few releases after that as well.

Maybe i could find the answer somewhere else... but

How is it expected the upgrade from 24.04.02 to 25.10 to be rolled out? Directly or through another version in between ?

i.e. what is to be expected as to upgrading from LTS to LTS ?

Thanks

W

I think this thread explains it pretty well: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/1k30c02/can_i_update_from_2404_to_25/

In short you should either wait until the next LTS version i.e. 26 or choose to upgrade to 24.10 and from there you may jump to 25.04 but these are not LTS so if you only wish to stay on LTS you're going to have to wait until the next LTS launches

Both 24.10 and 25.04 are stable but aren't LTS so they have only nine months or so support for their packages and stuff as far as I know since they are interim releases
