Hello everyone, I have a problem and I’m hoping someone can advise.
I have a desktop running Windows 10 and Ubuntu, the problem is when I did the installation I did not take into consideration were the Grub menu would be installed.
I believe Windows is installed in UEFI and Ubuntu is installed in Legacy, so you see now when I boot my machine I have to go in to my bios and change the boot order for each OS and I do not see the Grub menu at all
I really would like to have the GRUB menu appear to give me the option to choose which OS I want.
What and how do I correct this problem, I’m thinking maybe I need to do a fresh Installation and this time install Ubuntu in the same boot order as Windows 10, I don’t want to mess my Windows partition up doing this.
The worst that could happen is the Windows bootloader being erased/replaced in the process. Even so, that will require the Windows Recovery Disc. (Very temperamental!)
The safest way is to backup all your data and reinstall Ubuntu in the correct mode as you suggest.
Yes I was thinking the same just reinstall Ubuntu in the same boot order by as Windows, but my question is I would have to create yet another partition correct? and if so how would I reclaim the space from the unwanted partition
I’m not that experienced with UEFI, but you do need an “EFI Reserved” partition, since you have Windows in UEFI, you can reuse the one used by Windows.
The installer can automatically perform the partitioning and bootloader for you, simply delete the old Ubuntu partition and swap using GParted in the live session. When installing, choose the “Install Ubuntu alongside Windows 10” option, which will use the remaining unallocated space.
