On the Ubuntu MATE download page (https://ubuntu-mate.org/download/amd64) it shows April 2021 EOL for Ubuntu MATE 18.04 LTS. On this page (https://endoflife.software/operating-systems/linux/ubuntu) it shows April 2023 EOL. Which is it and why the confusion?

Both numbers are correct. After April 2021, you will stop receiving updates for the MATE part of Ubuntu MATE, while the Ubuntu part will still receive updates until April 2023. This is done by pretty much every official Ubuntu flavour (apart from Ubuntu itself)
