Ubuntu has experienced an internal error

I got a popup.

Ubuntu has experienced an internal error

The popup does not let me copy any of the message?

Are the details contained in some file?

Where do I start to diagnose the problem?

Thanks.

You can try to fix this using Software Boutique. In Software Boutique click on Fixes (last icon on the right) and then update and upgrade packages and then fix broken files.

What application actually caused the problem? There should be a .crash file in /var/log/crash directory that should also be mentioned in that pop-up report.

And "apport" faced some older/obsolete packages when it intercepted the crash and that's why you won't (likely) be able to report it unless you upgrade them (see the manpage for more clarification).

You can set the APPORT_IGNORE_OBSOLETE_PACKAGES variable to ignore those packages. There's also another way- you can edit the .crash file and "remove" the UnreportableReason part so that the error can be reported using apport.

There are files in /var/crash/.

Most of them occurred after boot up.

_usr_lib_mate-indicator-applet_mate-indicator-applet-complete.1000.crash
_usr_lib_x86_64-linux-gnu_brisk-menu_brisk-menu.1000.crash
_usr_lib_x86_64-linux-gnu_brisk-menu_brisk-menu.1000.upload
_usr_lib_x86_64-linux-gnu_brisk-menu_brisk-menu.1000.uploaded
_usr_lib_x86_64-linux-gnu_notify-osd.1000.crash
_usr_lib_x86_64-linux-gnu_notify-osd.1000.upload
_usr_lib_x86_64-linux-gnu_notify-osd.1000.uploaded
_usr_share_dayplanner_dayplanner.1000.crash
_usr_share_dayplanner_dayplanner.1000.upload
_usr_share_dayplanner_dayplanner.1000.uploaded

Is this what I would remove?

UnreportableReason:
You have some obsolete package versions installed. Please upgrade the following packages and check if the problem still occurs:

I recently installed Day Planner. I hope I do not have to remove it because it's the only decent
reminder program I have found.

I used to use Reminder Fox with Firefox, but it stopped working with newer versions. :frowning:

Yes, that's what you have to remove; but I think you should at least check if those packages can be upgraded.

I have not idea about that; you can check though if it depends on any of those packages.

I upgraded the packages, but DayPlanner was still crashing.

It seems that the DayPlanner project isn't active any more. Filing an "issue" I guess won't mean anything!
Apport gives a lot of info for a crash, so the only way to find out would be to study those information.
