I've left most desktop settings alone, as I like the old school GNOME 2 layout. But with some tweaks. Added the Wanda FIsh to bottom right panel, application killer shortcut beside the workspace switcher, and weather reader beside calender. These seemed like relevant placements, while reserving a clean appearance. I've also installed Synaptic, Htop, Kdenlive, SimpleScreenRecorder, Bombono DVD, GIMP, Koulorpaint, Clementine, Flash 17, Google Earth PlayOnLinux, Wine, and Virtualbox. Under Wine is Fireworks, Flash, and Sketchup.
The theming used is the stock Ambient-MATE, but with window border scheme from Ubuntu 10.04. I copied over the entire Ambience resources from an old iso (Google it) Caption controls on left, and Compiz + Wobbly windows.
