What happened to the download link for 17.04? It was here about a week or so ago. I can’t find it anywhere on the web. Please don’t tell me to download 17.10. I would like to test 17.04. Thanks.
Edit: Whoops! Looks like terzag is right. The link steers one to either 16.04LTS or 17.10.
It’s likely been removed because support ended a few days ago.
Makes no sense to remove releases because they are no longer supported. Ubuntu has their old releases online going all the way back to 4.10 Warty Warthog. I found Ubuntu Mate 17.10 elsewhere.
It’s likely to avoid people downloading old version and learning later that they have an unsupported OS.
Ubuntu has old versions available but they’re on a specific website, you can’t download them directly by going to ubuntu.com. Maybe Ubuntu MATE has a similar website but I’m not aware of it. Or the developers don’t want to bother managing obsolete versions.
All of Ubuntu’s releases ARE on their website ubuntu.com. It’s just a matter of knowing how to find it.
It might make sense in some cases.
Like when an ISO might brick a computer like in the recent Lenovo Snafu that prompted Ubuntu to release 17.10.1.
I can confirm 17.04 was removed because it has reached “end of life”. Also, Canonical (as Ubuntu MATE is an official flavour) hosts the desktop images, the links would not have worked any longer.
In the past, obsolete releases were moved to http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/ – but I’ve just noticed there isn’t one for Ubuntu MATE/GNOME Even Kubuntu 15.10 on their old page links to 404 pages.
