Ubuntu MATE 17.10 freezes

Today I installed Ubuntu MATE 17.10 on my ■■■■■■ old HP Mini. Everything is working perfectly fine except one thing. When I move my mouse to the bottom edge Ubuntu freezes. Neither mouse nor keyboard reacts then. Any clue on the fix?
Thanks in advance!

P.S. I did not have that problem on 17.04

I don’t know if it can be related but I noticed that Ubuntu MATE randomly boots to black/grey screen. It seems to be totaly random. Just after Ubuntu MATE logo it goes to black screen. Already added “nomodeset” to /etc/default/grub but it appears to give no results. Do you have any idea what can it be caused by?

EDIT
The thread can be closed. I decided to change back to 17.04 becouse apparently 17.10 seems not to go well with my old rig and caused more problem than just this one
