Ubuntu Mate 18.04 Not Booting on Raspberry Pi4 B 4 GB

I am trying to boot an image of Ubuntu Mate on a raspberry pi 4. My steps are:

  1. Downloading the 64 bit image of Ubuntu Mate (I've tried 32 bit as well)
  2. unzipping the file and using raspberry imager to flash the image to an SD card
  3. Then I place the SD in the pi. Nothing shows up on the monitor, and looking at the pi, the green light is not flashing which ive learned means that it is not booting. A solid red light is all I see.

Is there something I am doing wrong?

Sorry I am still new at using Raspberry Pi's!

Thanks for the help!

Sorry that you are having issues, the Downloads section of the webpage has an issue with how the Downloads are presented at the moment.

The 18.04.2 Ubuntu MATE images are not compatible with the Raspberry Pi 4's.

Please choose one of the 20.04 Pi images for use on the Pi 4.

Some more info can be found here.

Thank you. I have tried to use the 20.04 Pi image but I need to use ROS Melodic on this Pi and it doesn't have support for 20.04 which I found out the hard way. Is there another way to get 18.04.2 onto the pi or will I have to wait?

Possibly download an older image and update to 18.04.2? Or get 20.04 and downgrade to 18.04.2.

Sorry if these seem like dumb options. I'm still trying to learn

You can install Ubuntu 18.04.5 for the Raspberry Pi from here: https://ubuntu.com/download/raspberry-pi

Then you could manually install Ubuntu MATE or run Wimpy's Desktopify script.
