History might repeat itself. I noticed that Ubuntu MATE 24.10 release notes mentioned being unable to ship the latest MATE desktop (1.28) then due to bugs/regressions:
First, MATE 1.28 will need to end up in Debian, before it's synced to Ubuntu, which it hasn't.
A quick search on the Debian mailing lists brings up this:
