Greetings,
I’ve tried to use Ubuntu MATE 14.04 on a laptop with a SiS 661/671 graphics card. Installation went smoothly, but when I booted into the desktop, I couldn’t change at a resolution higher than 800x600. After some research, I found out that the culprit was Xorg, which would try to load a driver (xorg-video-sisimedia I think) for 12.04, because a newer version wouldn’t build against the newer xorg. I was forced to go with VESA, but I figured out that the videos on YouTube would lag unbearably. Changed my distro to Manjaro, and then Mageia, but to no avail.
Soon after I was forced to install Win7 for a school project, but I want back Ubuntu MATE.
Long story short: can Ubuntu MATE 15.04 support this card with a native driver?
My specs:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.2 GHz
GPU: SiS 661/671 Integrated Graphics Adapter
RAM: 4GB
HDD: 120GB
Native Resolution: 1280x800
Thanks in advance,
lightspot21
Hi,
if you PM me with your Email address, I have 2 old SIS deb packages which may/may not help!.
Thanks, but I think it’s better practice to post the files on the forum, in case somebody else needs them.
Okay, how do I upload files to the forum?, I don’t have a server and I’m not leaving my PC on 24/7.
After a brief search, it looks like you can’t, but you can upload them on a dropbox, google drive etc. and post the links.
Hi lightspot21,
sorry but I don’t do any of the above, I have sooooooo many other accounts and I really don’t need any more!.
The offer still stands if you want the files, if you have those types of accounts, you can upload the files yourself!.
Okay then! I’ll be sending you a PM with an email address and I’ll upload them on a Mega.
Edit: Here are the files for whoever else needs them:

Haven’t tested them though, as I don’t have my laptop available right now, but I’ll respond asap.
