I think there is a memory leak with the mate-panel
. Just leaving it idle for 24 hours consumes 4 GB of virtual memory. I’ve attached a htop
output.
I’ve posted the bug in the github page of mate and they have said that they have fixed the bug and it’s upto your distro maintainer now to fix it. Links below
I’ve also posted the bug in canonical’s bug forum. Links below
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mate/+bug/1793465
Is there anything more I need to do?
@vkareh can you share your knowledge please?

@xavier666 same here.
I've tried to install 1.20.3-1 on 18.04 built with patches from PR Backport memory leak fixes and critical bug fixes from gnome-panel by rcaridade145 · Pull Request #866 · mate-desktop/mate-panel · GitHub but this not helps in my case. mate-panel
process still eats memory up.
On start:
$ ps v -C mate-panel
PID TTY STAT TIME MAJFL TRS DRS RSS %MEM COMMAND
29871 ? Sl 0:00 1 580 728919 44940 0.7 mate-panel
One hour later:
PID TTY STAT TIME MAJFL TRS DRS RSS %MEM COMMAND
29871 ? Sl 0:04 1 580 821491 137396 2.2 mate-panel
